Three friars to be ordained in St. Louis May 14

Friar Dominic Patrick McManus, Friar Joseph Michael Minuth, and Friar Cassian Kenneth Sama, of the Order of Preachers (Dominicans), Province of St. Albert the Great, will be ordained to the priesthood on Saturday, May 14, at 6:30 pm, at St. Pius V Church, St. Louis, Missouri, by the Most Rev. John R. Gaydos, Bishop of Jefferson City, Missouri.

Brother Dominic, born in Des Moines, Iowa, is one of two children of Patrick and Virgene McManus. After graduating in 2001 from Dowling High School in West Des Moines, he attended Loras College in Dubuque, Iowa, and was awarded a bachelor’s degree in philosophy, English and Catholic studies . Brother Dominic entered the Order of Preachers in August 2006, taking religious vows at St. Dominic Priory in Denver, Colorado. From 2006-2011, Brother Dominic has pursued theological studies at Aquinas Institute of Theology in Saint Louis, Missouri.

Following ordination to the priesthood, Brother Dominic will celebrate Masses of Thanksgiving May 15 at 10 am, at St. Pius V Parish in St. Louis, Missouri, and May 21 at 4:30 pm at St. Theresa of the Child Jesus Parish in Des Moines, Iowa. After his ordination, he will pursue graduate studies with the Pontifical Athenaeum Sant' Anselmo in Rome, Italy.

Brother Joseph was born in Modesto, California, to Johannes Nicolai Minuth and Anna Maria Vargas, and has one brother, John. He graduated from Cathedral High School in El Paso, Texas, and attended the University of Texas at El Paso. Brother Joseph was awarded a bachelor’s degree in business from St. Edward’s University in Austin, Texas. He entered the Order of Preachers, taking religious vows in August 2005 at St. Dominic’s Priory in Denver, Colorado. From 2005-2011, Brother Joseph has been pursuing theological studies at Aquinas Institute of Theology.

After his ordination, Brother Joseph will celebrate Masses of Thanksgiving May 15 at 10:30 am at Little Flower Parish in Richmond Heights, Missouri, and May 22 at noon at St. Vincent de Paul Parish in Salt Lake City, Utah. His first assignment as a priest will be with St. Thomas Aquinas Newman Center at Purdue University in West Lafayette, Indiana.

Brother Cassian, born in Kumba (Yaounde), in the Southwest Province of Cameroon, is one of six children of Dr. Joseph N. Sama and Veronica N. Nsom. He attended Bishop Rogan College, Buea, Cameroon, St. Bede’s College, Ashing, Kom, Cameroon, and received a bachelor’s degree in political science and public administration from the University of Swaziland in 1998. Brother Cassian was awarded a master of arts degree in public administration in 2003 from Kansas State University. He professed religious vows as a member of the Order of Preachers in August 2005. From 2005-2011, he has studied theology at Aquinas Institute of Theology in St. Louis, Missouri.

Brother Cassian will celebrate Masses of Thanksgiving May 15 at 11 am at St. Justin Martyr Parish in Sunset Hills, Missouri, and May 22 at 10 am at Seven Dolors of the Blessed Virgin Mary Parish in Manhattan, Kansas. Brother Cassian’s first assignment as a priest will be to the staff of St. Paul Newman Center, Indiana University, in Bloomington, Indiana.
