Lauren Vater, the 2007-2008 volunteer with the DLC/UN office in
New York
was missioned to Bolivia for three and a half years at a ceremony
in Maryknoll on December 13th. Anne Marie Bucher, OP (Hope), Eileen
Gannon, OP (Sparkill), Patricia Howell, OP (Blauvelt) and Dorothy
Maxwell, OP (Blauvelt) joined Lauren’s parents in celebrating
the completion of the Maryknoll program for new lay missioners.
In a moving service in the Maryknoll Chapel, eleven lay missioners
and one sister were commissioned by the representatives of the
Maryknoll Society, and blessed by those present as they each received
their assignment and mission cross. A reception for family
and friends followed the ceremony.
Lauren left for Bolivia on January 8th. She will spend six
months in Cochabamba for language study before going the mountains
area where she will join other Maryknoll missionaries.
