Dominican
Sisters of Peace
Name
Affirmed for New Congregation Forming Next Year
COLUMBUS, OH - October 27, 2008 -- The seven U.S. congregations
of Dominican Sisters that came to be known as the Dominican Cluster
are pleased to announce that a name has been affirmed for their
new congregation: "Dominican
Sisters of Peace."
The name was chosen by the congregations'
membership through a yearlong process that included several phases
of reflection and input gathering. Sisters were asked through multiple
rounds to submit name ideas and their rationales, to review ideas
and rationale of others, and to express preferences based on prayerful
reflection. After intercongregational conversations at two different
gatherings this past summer, the name "Peace" received
significant support. After further membership consultation, the
leadership of the seven congregations affirmed the full name "Dominican
Sisters of Peace" at a recent meeting in Oxford, Michigan.
The new name will be celebrated by members of the soon-to-be-formed
congregation as they gather for a Pre-Chapter Assembly in St. Louis
October 31 through November 2, 2008.
The Foundation Day for new congregation is planned for Easter Sunday,
April 12, 2009. On that day, the Dominican Sisters of Peace will
officially be formed by the union of these seven Dominican congregations:
Dominican Congregation of St. Rose of Lima (Oxford, MI) Dominican
Sisters, Congregation of St. Mary (New Orleans, LA) Dominican Sisters
of Great Bend (Great Bend, KS) Dominican Sisters, St. Mary of the
Springs (Columbus, OH) Dominicans of St. Catharine (St. Catharine,
KY) Eucharistic Missionaries of St. Dominic (New Orleans, LA) Sisters
of St. Dominic of the Immaculate Heart of Mary (Akron, OH)
