Houston Dominicans Mourn Former Prioress
HOUSTON,
TX January 22, 2007-- Sr. Antoinette Boykin, OP, former prioress of the
Houston Dominicans, died on January 7 at the age of 93. Just last August
she celebrated her 75th Jubilee of entrance into religious life.
Sr.
Antoinette was prioress from 1964-1970, those crucial years following
Vatican Council II. Twice named president of Sacred Heart Dominican College
in Houston, she served from 1959-1964 and again from 1970-1975.
Sister
was Vicar for Religious for the Diocese of Galveston-Houston in the early
1980s, and was Director of Development for the congregation from 1982
to 1998. After her retirement, she developed her skills as a painter,
providing many pieces for the annual Art Show and Sale. A life-long teacher
and student, Sr. Antoinette was known for her interest in spirituality
as well as world affairs, keeping abreast of current events in the Church
and politics. She had a deep prayer life and often provided spiritual
direction to sisters and friends.
We extend our condolences to the Dominican Sisters
of Houston.
